Wood type
Edition 2- 4 each
In Home Body Land, I use the physicality of large wood type to create prints measuring 40” x 58” that are displayed in a repetitive sequence.
The wood type used to create the prints is 150 line sans serif type from the Hamilton Wood Type Museum collection, where the prints were produced in an edition of 3 each. Printing letters of this size requires physical strength and skill, as does handling paper of this size. The imposing scale gives the letters a presence that directly relates to the human body. I wanted to create the prints by myself and use the process as a part of the language of the artwork. I have inked the letters in such a way as to create the picture plane on the letter itself, breaking the logic of the letterform and using the physicality of ink to create landscapes.
